There is only one breed of turkey just a few diferent varieties.Sounds like you can cross any 2 breeds and wind up with a new breed!![]()
If the red bronze you have are offspring of royal palm and Bourbon red, then they have recessive gray and Narragansett genes, plus the recessive red that you can see. They also have recessive black wing bases. The palm has black wing bases with gray and Narragansett genes. So all the offspring get recessive black wing gray and Narri genes from the hen. The Tom may contribute a blacking base or a bronze base, a gray or a not gray, a Narragansett or a not Narragansett, and a red or a not red. This gives you sixteen possible colors, some with recessive hidden genes. A partial list of possibilities include bronze, red bronze, Narragansett, Golden Narrgansett, black wing Narragansett, black wing bronze, golden Phoenix, calico, and royal palm.
What is the only breed of turkey you are referring to , since every time I cross a Holland white with a Holland white, I do not get a cross, just another Holland White? Just curious! There is only one breed of turkey just a few diferent varieties.
