I recently got 5 turkey chicks. Two have died! I didn't inspect the first one, but this second one had a very red and bloody anus. I assumed perhaps he got compacted by eating litter. However, I then watched in the brooder and saw one turkey pecking at the other's butts. So, I'm wondering did this turkey cause the injury, or was he merely pecking at the wound from compaction? They 3x8 foot brooder, so its not boredom or overcrowding.

Do I have one aggressive turkey? Or, is it the litter? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Are they healthy and active, otherwise? No ruffled feathers, lack of appetite, standing around all droopy with eyes half/fully closed swaying side to side? How old are they? What do you feed them?

Need to rule out coccidiosis if they are three weeks or older. If they are not on a high protein Gamebird Starter (28-30%) then get some (can also augment diet with moths/meal worms). Observe their behavior closely to see if one in particular is the culprit or, if they are getting weakened - one at a time - it is natural for the other poults to take out the puny poults (separate).

What are you using as bedding?

I have them on game bird food. large pine flake bedding. They are under 2 weeks old.

I saw one with a bloody beak, so I think he is the culprit. But, I wasn't sure if perhaps he was just curious, or actually being aggressive. I'll watch em a bit today.
