Turkey + fly ribbon

Hey guys I heard some commotion in my back room and walked into find my pet turkey flew through his netting and into a fly ribbon. I found it stuck between his left wing and his body. I removed the tape and the wife and I are doing the whole oil and dawn thing without much luck. It was a raid brand strip. I'm trying to get what i can off him, but like i said its not working super great. Is the fly ribbon glue harmful if I get what I can and let him clean himself the rest of the way?

He seems pretty relaxed haha

I am not certain how harmful the glue is. I wouldn't think it's terribly harmful though. I would just worry about him getting feathers stuck and then pulling them when he opens his wings. Getting glue on his head could get nasty since that's bare skin, it may literally remove skin if pulled.
As for removal though, alcohol tends to break down glue in most cases. I would avoid running alcohol because its high in VOCs. Perhaps try vodka. Be share to rinse it off well though as you don't want a drunken turkey

Try WD40. It does a very good job dissolving the glue on unwanted stickers etc.

Perfect I'll give that a try. I got what I could and then put him back to sleep so will see if I can clean up any left overs today

If nothing else works, you can use the tried and proven method of cutting off the affected feathers. They will eventually grow back just like cutting the hair off in order to get rid of the stuck chewing gum.

Haha I may be tempted to drink it first we got most the sticky part off it seems like...hes just got a lot of yellow now lol

We thought about that last night. I think we got enough of it that he should be able to clean himself up the rest of the way. Thank you for your help!

After awhile he was pretty content to just lay there and be "pet". He was pretty stressed at first till we got the tape ofnl and started working on him. Once he got to lay on the sink he calmed down. Especially if one of us pet him and stroked his back while the other pulled his wing up and worked on him

My Cockatiel flew into a fly strip once and we used a lot of olive oil I think it was to get it off. We got as much off as we could and it didn't take him long to look normal again.
