I love the sound of my poults.

It tells me all is well as long as I can hear them. What I get tired of hearing is the quails! They are soooooooooo lound. LOL

I raise guineas with the poults. They tend to teach them easier and quicker how to eat, drink and calm themselves.

hahaa! oh! now i know why you all dont post much. LOL. saving the turkey race... they are noisy. I like the peep peep peep. But i wanted to make sure they were just talkers. LOL

Cute lil things, and MAN their wings are huge!!!!! And mine are only 4 weeks old.

Hi there,

I had 3 Royal Palms and 2 Bourbon Red poults hatch last week. I remember the noise they made last year so I tried a few new things. I used a red light bulb this year instead of white, used corn cob as bedding (after day 5) and provided grit in their starter so that when they ate some greens it wouldn't get stuck in their throat. I did have a little bit of a problem with a bourbon red poult crying though. I put in some greens and this stopped the behaviour long enough for it to forget that it was distressed. Try providing a low perch for them, this should work.

Conditioned poluts are going to cry, I think.

If you are conditioning your poults so that they think your "momma turkey" they will probably cry when you are away and they can not see or hear you. Fortunately I have conditioned mine only to greens in my hand. I am guilty however of cheeping back to the day old poults when they call, but I stopped this because otherwise they will get conditioned to my voice and cry when their is no reply to their peep-peep-peep. Leave them to bond with each other because if they are inside your house brooding and are conditioned to you-momma turkey have fun sleeping! All in all- this year has been such a great hatch and the poults are so sweet and quiet, thank God!

I believe the combination of bedding, red light, little to no conditioning, some petshop cockatiel grit, some small pieces of greens and plenty of fresh water will do the trick. Hope this helps but again I only have a couple of years experience with turkey poults, but I will say they are my favorite. I have hatched and raised the following:

button quails, coturnix quails, ringneck pheasants, chickens, pekin ducks, call ducks, Unimproved bronze - Bourbon Red and Royal Palm Turkeys, chinese and african geese. Love my incubator.

how old is the poult??? i'm going to go with "he's not warm enough"

if he is younger than 3 weeks or so they really need a good heat source - i've found they need more than what you'd expect - or use for chickens

our only poult this year - Mr Pipps - is happy as a clam with the chickens but i need to remember to make sure he is extra warm. the chicks dont care if its like a sunny vacay but Mr Pipps was getting fussy when i eased the lights back.

LOL... I love the "wheeeattt" and okay even pee-peep-peep.

Pacing is often agitation.

Too warm is the first question.

Offering a marble or something shiny can distract them.

Polyvisol helps some (non-iron) b vitamins calm people and animals.

And, yes, mine are somewhat spoiled...

This is my fourth set of poults this year and, thanks to a lot of practice, the quietest. Nevermind that the first batch are lap pets, there are only seven of those.

I chopped up a hardboiled egg for mine when they started all that peep peep peeping. It seems to quiet them down quickly and keeps them occupied. The added plus is it gives them extra protein that they need too!!

Mine are 3 weeks old and growing like weeds, they are in a warm room with a lite that won't go out, so it stays on 24/7 and are very happy without their extra heat source.

the only time I hear from them is if the water is gone or there is no feed.

Turkeys are much more sociable and peep for company, in my experience.

I remember my first 10 poults doing this, starting around 3 weeks and continuing to about 9 weeks. But we realized it was because they were peeping at US!

They are more human-sociable than chicks, and we finally figured out that they would peep like crazy when they saw us because they had associated us with "mom" because we fed them. Anyways, ours were outside in a pen and they would jam up against the wall, peep peep peep, peep peep peep whenever we were outside. I just thought they were peeping, but later realized it only started when we were within eyesight. It drove me nuts. It stopped when they got big enough to let them free-range. Then, if they saw us, they would go peep peep peep and just fly over and hang out with us and be quiet.

On the other hand, I had to raise 2 poults together in a brooder and they didn't peep much at all, unless one was out of the brooder.

Not sure if that helps.

THANKS! yes, ive noticed now that it peeps when i come up to it. So cute. Its the smaller one, im praying i have a pair.
