Hello Everyone,

I am new to turkeys and chickens. We decided to let a few of our turkey hens sit, and I am having NO LUCK!

1st hen:(blue slate) sat 3 days and begun to eat all her eggs! Why?

2nd Hen:(blue slate) would sit but get off for hours and hours. She would sit all day and night then get off for 5 or more ours the next day. Or sit all day then go roost for the night! why wouldn't she just stay sitting

3rd Hen: (royal palm) sat perfectly!! we watched here get bred many times so let her keep her eggs today is the 30th day and NOTHING has hatched. (candled and look like early death or even infertile)

4th Hen: (blue slate) sitting great has 5 days left but has started pooping on her eggs and they are very dirty! Also, started with 20 eggs and has been eating a few so is now down to 12. Why is she eating them.

One of my toms (royal palm) is 3 years old, we think. She told us he was one, being newbies we didn't know any better and when we did get a one year old realized the first one was obviously not 1. So we figure he is 3. Is he still fertile?

Last question: we did get a old incubator and decided to try it but had the power go out a couple times due to bad weather, how do i know if they are still good or not?

I really home someone can help me! I really love having the animals but I have no idea what I'm doing!

On 1st hen maybe egg broke under her and was easy meal so she started eating others. Make sure they have access to good layer feed.

On couple other hens you didn't say how many eggs in nest. Some hens will nest with as few as a couple eggs some other might not set solid till there is up to 20 eggs in a nest. So getting off fo several hours she wasn't ready.

I have one hen that when she goes to lay egg take her hours might go to lay at 9am not got get off till early evening. There is nothing for her to set on as I pick up eggs daily.

3rd hen did you start days from days she locked down on nest and didn't get off but once or twice a day. Or from eggs being laid.

Tom should be fine at 3 yrs old for breeding.

How far along are the eggs and how long did the power go out? Also, what is your local temperature, is it very hot or cold in your house/wherever you keep your incubator?
