I just posted something the other day when others were complaining about the news getting them down. I said the INTERNET gets me down. You mix a whole bunch of people, that may or may not be in a *** mood, and youre bound to get frustrated. Its hard to ignore people when all they seem to want to do is aggravate you. I know Id like to poke at least one person in the eye every day! At least!

You offer too much to stay away.

Thank you all for your support here and from the PM's. I can't stay away and leave you all to "cut and pastes" and people that can't or won't show pics of how they do things. Lets get this thing going again - anybody want to jump on the turkey train?

I got to the point that this thread wasn't enjoyable for me anymore. It was you guys that got me thinking about the whole thing and not letting issues get me down, so here we go again and here to stay.

Well while we are on the topic of turkeys, Steve. We have always had JUST one breed of turkeys so they got the run of the whole 4 acre pasture. BUT, I have acquired some sweetgrass eggs I hatched and am going to have to do something with them to keep my breeds seperate. I hate to have to pen them up but I'm going to have too. What kind of housing do you use fo your birds? Size, roof, run, etc... I will have less than 10 of them probably 6 or 7. Thanks

Steve....excuse my stupid question, but in your last post you wrote penning turkeys up during breeding season....does this mean they won't breed in the field? When is "breeding" season? I have a hen that is 4 mos old or so, she sat on a nest yesterday. Isn't she too young to lay eggs?

I know most people know the answers to my questions, but I am a beginner when it comes to turkeys. I'm learning...thanks to you.

yay Steve!

everybody loves a turkey!! yay! yay! yay!!!

i'll post some pix of Mr Pipps tomorrow - he left his chicks to go see what real turkeys are. he may need therapy. as i was carrying him back to the chickies he mumbled something about how i 'lied' to him this whole time about his who his 'real' mother is..... ingrate.

They will breed in the field but if you don't set the eggs no worries. Depending on the breed they can lay at 6 to 8 months, the smaller breeds sooner the largest later. the prime lay is in the spring when that days are getting longer. there can be a short lay in the fall.
