Turkey Vultures

Do turkey vultures prey on chickens? I know black vultures do, but I get mixed messages about TV's. I have several tv's that pass low over my chickens on a regular basis and I am concerned. This happened on Sunday. Fortunately, I was outside with the girls and scared the bird off. Are the birds just curious or are they looking for lunch???

I'm very confident your flock is safe around turkey vultures. Like you said, black vultures would be cause for concern.

This may help. I don't know that they swoop down and take chickens as an owl or hawk might do, but guess it is possible since they have learned to peck the eyes out of new born calves and cows. Turkey vultures fly over my house all the time and have never bothered my chickens, unless it was already dead for some other reason.

I would have to agree with the above. They aren't really into anything that they have to chase down to feed on.
