Turkeys and Electric Netting

Be very careful buying organic feed. Most "organic" feed skimps on the essentials.

The other issue with "organic" feed is that most of it really isn't and they slap the organic label on it to charge a higher price.
Yes, I was worried about that. The marketing lawyers are quick to come up with new ways to label and misrepresent haha not a lot of good options out there if you’re conscious about non GMO / organic. I’ll see if I can’t find a label of the organic and post it for some input

I agree with R2elk about organic. Based on four weeks of use, my turkey poults have done great on the Kalmbach 20% Flock Maker. They readily eat it and have really taken off since they began eating it. I have also been mixing in a little Kalmbach 5 grain Scratch the past couple of weeks as well.

Question for R2elk: what do you feed your mature turkeys?

I feed all my poultry the same. I use 20% protein all flock pellets with free choice oyster shell.

I was thinking of switching from Purina Flock Raiser to the non GMO 20% Flock Maker by Kalmbach. I felt like the ingredients were very similar and the guaranteed analysis was close also. The crude fat in Purina flock raiser is slightly higher. And the vitamin content in Kalmbach looks higher.

I have fed the 20% Purina Flock Raiser to my chickens in the past with no problems. Lately, the TSC's in our area seem not to have it in stock so I drive down to Hurdle Mills Feed and Farm Supply in NC for the Kalmbach. It is actually cheaper than the PFR too. The bonus is there is a nearby restaurant called the Flat River Cafe that has outstanding food, with their cheeseburgers being known as some of the best in the state of NC. I like good food too.:)

I have a consistent problem with a local feed store not keeping my orders fulfilled and occasionally I get poor quality Purina Flock Raiser, sometimes a “dust” bag or a moldy one. I figured trying something new that was non-GMO could be a tiny step in a good direction. I have not seen any studies that indicate a real difference between the organic/gmo feed as it translates to human health but I’d rather have less roundup in feed my birds are getting and I think non gmo crops tend to have less.

Have seen the same with the PFR on occasion. Besides the cheeseburgers ;), another reason I make the trek to Hurdle Mills is that their feeds tend to be from recent dates. And I have never seen a single bug in any of their feeds which may be related to their freshness.
