Mine have gone from peeping at me, to barking and half gobbling- and now last night while trying to teach them to roost they puffed up and hissed at me.

They are only 5 weeks old - going to be a fun flock to keep around.

I get peeped at too, but it's more like a "OMG, RUN she's coming again!" scared peep. I have had them for almost a month and they are still scared to death of me. I feel so bad for them, but I've tried everything and they still will not get the least bit tame.

My chickens, on the other hand, are just as tame as can be. Turkeys are definitely strange creatures.

Mine are 5 weeks old and I have had them since they were 3 days and they are still scared of me but the minute I walk off from them they start their screeching sounds.

Hopefully they chill out. Mine are so friendly they are trip hazards. And insist on sitting on my lap for pettings! They've been that way since they were hatched, begging for attention like feathered puppies!

It must be a breed thing. The royal palm crosses I'm hatching out are NOT friendly, just like their parents from last year. Unfortunately, the BBB I got at the feed store LOVE me, which is making it hard, because they don't have a good long term prognosis because of their breed and purpose, dinner.

i think alot has to do with how they are handled right out of the hatcher, the ones i spent some time with making sure they were eating are as tame as tame can be, the others... not so much... they seam to get less squirlley when they strut all the time. I have an evil whit hen that hisses and leads them all into trouble, cant wait till shes big enough!

I love the way mine are always looking for me! I try sneaking out and getting some work done before they see me. They're about 5 weeks old and will protect me from the goats, LOL!

I've heard breed has a lot to do with it. I have Bourbon Reds that are friendly and curious to the point of peskiness! I have pictures of the 3 poults perched on the porch swing with my son, and missed pictures of 1 in the sandbox with him and then the 3 lined up outside of it, watching him in the sandbox.

It's really a shame they're so darn cute.

I've been lucky so far my turkeys are 8 weeks old. they aren't overly friendly or afraid. They're my little stoner birds that just go with flow.
