Turkeys For 2013

Out of the 4 almost two week old royal palm turkey poults only one is getting black dashes on the wing feathers, the others are all white and bigger. Does that mean that that one is a jake? Or are my others really not royal palms? They were bought from the feed store but the only "white" poults they ordered where the RPs, they also had blue slate and a couple of "wild colored" breeds.

Mine is 4 months old and he is still pure white. Not one black speck on him???

Around me they will not give that information out. They want to sell the hatchery stock they can make more profit on, but you can ask if they have a bulletin board where customers put ads. They might not bother pulling off all competition!

The momma has 11 babies now (something got one) but they're getting more independent each day. These 4 in particular are little rebels. While the rest of the poults sleep underneath her, these 4 have to roost on their own. They also go the farthest away when foraging out in the pasture, much to their mother's dismay. They're probably toms, little troublemakers

Where do y'all get your fowl pox vaccinations? I am a new turkey person and live in Arizona so I need to know about this!! It sounds like I do NOT want it in my birds!!

I have worked with horses and now own 2 and I know about all their nasty bugs!! I give vaccinations yearly to them. I would appreciate any advice from you turkey pros!!

Would you ship your BRs to Arizona. I would just love a young pair!! I love my turkeys they are such cool birds and very personable although my Tom Mr. Henry is a guard dog when he is out of the coop!! I am hoping that now that he has a hen and 3 poults ( a ready made family) he gets better!! He is much happier and has finally started acting like a turkey instead of a person!! He definitely had an identity crisis!!

As I said would appreciate any advice!! All y'alls birds are gorgeous!!

I have never seen or heard of a Red Palm! How do you get that color? Is that you Marcia? I like your roost in your coop RockerHen! VERY NICE!

I got 3 poults ( Narragansett) from desrtmarcy I just love! They are quality birds and I am so glad she had them so I did not have to buy from a hatchery or feed store. She had the tom and hen so I saw the parents.I am definitely going to get more. I also got a really nice Royal Palm hen from her!

I am so happy with my birds and how they are doing! If I get enough hens from the peeps I got I eventually want a RP tom for my hen Maggie May. I think turkey eggs are much better than chicken eggs maybe it is just me but I think they taste a lot better. They are creamy tasting to me. My poults are growing like crazy and flying all over the place. Mr. Henry is very proud of his ready made family and quite protective over them It really helped him to get him a hen and peeps!!

I forgot to post a pic of my 2 poults that hatched with some peas and guineas this week. Here is a pic of 1 of the poults with his incubator friends. The other poult was still in the incubator drying off when this pic was taken. Will try to take some better pics this weekend and post again.
