Turkeys are hatching!! Four are out so far and 8 more have externally pipped. They are two days early ... weird. Temp is staying at 98° and humidity is at 64% by adding 2 sponges under the screen. They have all weighed between 60 and 62 grams. Excited!!! And as I was typing this two more have started zipping.

:weee :celebrate :clap

CONGRATS !!!!!!!!!

Please post pics when you can.

Just curious, WHat does everyone use to incubate? I have a Hovabator 1588 which I love so far. My DH bought me a second incubator for valentines day to use as a hatcher, a Farm innovators 4200 pro series. I felt bad telling him but I dont really like it and want another hovabator... I think I may order one today and hope it gets here in time. But What do you all use?

I have a Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco. Nothing to write home about. :/

So the final count is 3 poults. I didn't see any movement or zipping, so I went ahead and cracked them open. I got a large ziplock bag and put each individual egg inside and closed it up. I gently tapped on the egg through the bag with the end of a butter knife. It slightly cracked open and I was able to gently push it in to see what was going on inside. So, out of 12 eggs, 3 poults hatched, 5 were fully developed but for some reason didn't make it (they were dead in the shell), 3 failed to thrive and only 1 was not fertile. So, next go round, I will keep my humidity at 40 as I did with the first hatch for the year and see how that goes. Humidity at 40 seems to work for me.

I took the babies out of the bator and put them in their brooder (back in the kitchen again and more dust) :gig. I put their aluminum foil down and put their 30% game bird startena on the foil and they started pecking at the foil within 7 minutes and were eating within 10 minutes. I also put marbles in their waterer and they started pecking at the marbles and started drinking within 5 minutes after pecking at the marbles. This group caught on QUICK!!! I can remove the aluminum foil today. Thank goodness!

So those are the results from my hatching. Thanks to everyone for the advice and good wishes. It's over !!!!!!!! :th

So, who's next????????? I'm handing the torch to the next person. :gig

:weee

I still may try at least 3 more hatches before the end of laying season.

I have two pips in the bator. Looks like I won't be moving the other eggs to the new house today, like I had hoped, lol. Maybe a good thing though, as my luck doesn't seem to be running real hot right now. Getting prison patrol called on mefor the first time in years tells me that the rest of the day may not bode well either, lol. Congrats on your poults!

Hello everyone! Gratz on the hatch Kuntry!

I think the farm innovators is almost exactly the same as the Genesis. I have used both for chickens and the farm holds humidity slightly better. It is about 100 less if you include turner so I was happy. But if you want to see the babies, it only has a 2 window, not a 1 window model. Mind you, neither was great for shipped turkey eggs last year, getting to 80% was hard wihtout cutting off the oxygen.

This year I have a friend with a brinsea 190 i'm going to try and sweet talk into hatching my poults, once they lay. My girls have not started yet, i'm expecting a week or so since stuffing has been mating for about 3 weeks. Cranberries does NOT look like he is doing a great job, however. So we will see. I will also be trying in my Old redwood humidair. We renovated it and its up and running now, once again just not sure about getting humidity to 80% in there, but air flow would be great.

I don't like the "vinegary" taste. I LOVE the taste of pickled beets, so I would want my pickled eggs to taste like pickled beets. I guess I could use the pickled juice from a jar of beets and put the eggs in there. Do you think that would work?

Maybe try a pickled beet recipe on eggs? we pickle quail eggs and I have used beet recipes, but a bit too sweet for me. Should work however.

Go poults go!

Bettas Significant Other works at a prison, so I'm guessing it was either something going on there or someone did not recognize her ( they have houses there for personnel) I figure she would say the same thing herself if she was here. No ones arresting her!
