Turkeys For 2013

Ok not to interupt but I thought I would ask my 1 question here since this seems to be where everyone is.

Is it true cold water will kill a turkey ? I fill all my waterers from the hose, and of course its not heated. So do I really need to specially come inside just to warm up water for the turkey's ? Seems odd, since wild turkeys drink from ice cold streams and there seems to be an abundance.
Cold water for turkeys is just fine. I think what some people might be talking about is not giving cold water to newly hatched chicks and poults. Other than that all my outside animals get hose water and all my indoor brooder babies get luke warm sink water.

I have good news and bad news to report with my current batch of poults hatching...
I'm so sorry to hear this. I've lost 6 poults this year out of 50 due to one thing or another. Some of it my own doings. I felt awful for several days when this happened. I did have a chick die of the same thing you described. Don't know why. Hopefully, things will only get better.

I never knew that I couldn't give them cold water, so I always have. lol

EVERYONE'S PHOTO'S ARE BEAUTIFUL! SUCH PRETTY BIRDS.

I have never heard that. However, I give my poults room temp water until they are weeks older. During the winter, my adult turkeys drink cold water and have never died.

Quote: YOu can watch for internal pips and increase the humidity for the time to hatch, then drop it down again. Or listen for peeps, or when you see the first shell pip. I've had chicks hatch in the incubator before getting moved to the hatcher--so no worries.

Sure you can build another one. I did. I was terrified of electricity and I did it. Planning and accumulating the parts takes the longest, well for me it did as I needed it to be a cheap project.

Maybe get one done for a future set.
