Please try not to work too hard my friend !!

Quote: Usually mine thrive well enough. I have always used a turkey tudor--just something I do. Reminds the pults where the food and water is --though you are right, perhaps they could manage on their own.

Humidity is more about moisture loss than anything else. SOmething like 15-17% wt loss for the egg.

I"m sorry I don't know what is causeing the post hatch issues for a few of your babies. Very frustrating I'm sure. WIll be intersting to see if the trend continues.

You got that right, too many birds! Mostly it is the chicken overload. I have a bunch I want to cull/process for meat but it has been too hot to do that chore, so I keep feeding and feeding them... I hope it cools down soon, they are predicting 111 here tomorrow. I have to go out at least twice a day and clean and refill the water bowls in some of the chicken pens since they like to stand in them and get them all muddy, and one was full of sand this afternoon that had soaked up all the water

Just doing that little bit of work in this heat gives me a head ache and wipes me out. I soak myself down too, with the hose, when I'm outside but it doesn't cool me down too much 'cause the water coming out of the hose is luke warm, and that is after it has run for a long time. No such thing as cold hose water here this time of year! You want cold, water, ya got to put it in the refrigerator. I remember years ago my father stayed here and looked after the place for a couple of weeks in June while I was on vacation...he volunteered, guess he thought it would be fun, he lived in Pennsylvania. That was pre-poultry days. I told him, use only the cold water in the shower, it will only be luke warm, then when you are just about done, turn the cold tap off and turn the hot water on. You will get about 30-40 seconds of nice cool water from the pipes that are underground/in the walls before you actually get hot water, so you can cool off. He told me when I got back he was glad I told him that trick

Haven't posted in a while, there is an odd poult I am concerned about. Its a BBW about 12 weeks, a tom. He is swollen, his entire body. and when i pick him up, he feels like a water balloon. I cannot find anything online. My dad thinks his kidneys have failed. I have looked him over head to foot, no injury. This started 2 days ago when I first saw swelling. He was eating and drinking. Any ideas? I am sure he will be lost by

jchny I was looking on BYC to see what I could find for you, I thought I had seen something about a swollen or squishy chicken somewhere. But here is a link to some posts that might help on Sour Crop. You might also try doing a google search on Sour Crop in chickens or turkey or call a vet. I hope this helps! I hope your turkey gets better!
I'm wondering if this is sour crop.
