Turkeys For 2013

Someone I know had a problem with his roo attacking him...until he chucked a full bucket of iced water at him when he was in mid-attack mode.
Apparently it did the trick and his roo is now submissive and calm!

Love it!

Now that I have no adult toms, my royal palm hen has gone all manly.

She struts when I walk up and makes a pathetic attempt at gobbling whenever something strange happens (which her 2 1/2 month old poults echo the best they can, but they're pretty pathetic too). She still cares for her poults and protects them vigorously from any stray chicken or dog or cat that strays too close. How long do they normally stay with poults? Here's some pictures of her antics

Great pics! thanks for sharing!

On the aggressive roo.....mine is not tame at all, I ignore him most of the time (no eye contact with him) I love watching him working hard to keep his girls happy and safe. and I try to help him by showing him treats that he can show/share with them . he is a good boy. but I wouldn't hesitate to put him in a stew if he stepped outa line!

I love this picture! My hen would feather all up and puff around after she had mated. I never knew if she was happy or mad. Does the fence keep them in?
Actually, it does. It's 4 foot, and even with unclipped wings, they do not attempt to fly over it. I don't know if they assume it goes up forever or what, crazy birds. Turkeys just don't seem to get fences. We have a Michelin tire testing track down the road from us that's completely fenced in with chain link, and nearly every time we drive by it we see wild turkeys pacing up and down the outside of the fence trying to get to the field within it, seemingly unaware that they only need to jump up and over to get to it. My birds do however jump up on the gate (it's not infinite like the fence to them I guess

) to get out, which is why I clip wings, and that stops the escapees.

This is my Chocolate poulet hatched from 2 Bourbon Red parents. It's now a dark brown on top and a reddish brown on the breast. Male or female, I intend to keep this one.

My hatchlings from Plum run are finally on their way! I ordered Bourbon Reds, Pencilled Red Palm and Pencilled Palm. I love the unique feather patterns!

The birds i got from Porters all are from the red family. It's funny, those chicks have the same coloration I'm trying to put into my Belgian D'Uccles!

Can you just see a tiny little bantam roo trying to mount a turkey? I had one Serama roo that would chase a full sozed standard hen up a tree and procede to mount her. it looked so darn cute!
