I have 2 bourbon red toms. They are about 9months old. I also have 3 big dogs. Two are pyrenees mixes one is a doberman. They turkeys are good with people, but relentlessly harass the dogs. They will corner them and peck at them. The dobe even has a few wounds. Do you think that this will diminish or worsen over time? Do you think it would be better if there were just one tom?

Everyone is used to free ranging and it seemed to cause too much stress when I tried to seperate the turkeys. I hate to get rid of them but it's not fair to the dogs.

My toms are mean to my emu, they will chase them if the emu are near the barn. Funny watching three fat wobbling turkey toms chasing an emu.... They don't bother the Gps, but the geese do. The geese will bite them, grab their ears, tail, side of their mouth, bite their stomach.... And the Gps just walk faster or push them away with their paws. If the toms are that bad, I would pen up some and let one out at a time. Often toms get full of themselves when they have followers and gang up on others.

Turkeys are so territorial. I've always appreciated the fact that they can defend themselves for the most part but I don't see any harm in locking them up if there's a problem. I keep ours locked up when coyotes are around. If you enjoy them, keep them but it's not necessary to have them free ranging all of the time.
