Turned the incubator off this morning

LOL the guy who owned this old Leahy - he hadn't heard about the whole cleaning thing... oh my... 30 years of hatching.....

nothing like trying to clean incubated poo and goo huh? That's one good thing about a sportsman, it has a metal tray/liner on the very bottom that pulls out it's pretty easy to clean that. for the other we do the wet rag let it sit and soften thing. I hate cleaning out the water tray and all the hard water build up.

I have been running mine since January too. I thought I was going to be done by end of July but I keep finding eggs I want to incubate and can't stop.

So I hoping to turn off my incubator by end of August;) and start it back up In Oct or Nov When some of my New Breeds hopefully start laying

I also use a Sportsman they are so much easier to clean then those Styrofoam incubators.

That hard water build up is a BEAR. I've done the CLR thing twice on this pan and it's beginning to make a dent in it LOL.

The Leahy has a fine hardwire mesh bottom for the trays so most "stuff" fell all the way through, if it didn't stay. I've done a lot of vacuuming and am soaking and CLRing each tray one at a time, which appears to be working.

At one time the guy who'd owned it (and used it), ran the biggest poultry farm and had the biggest barn in his county. LOL it really wasn't a very big barn but you could see that it had been for the period. The current grandson is a politician and business man.

From farmers to politicians- lol no animals still lots of poo.

I admit to stuffing serama eggs under a broody but that doesn't count against my summer off time... not really.

Plenty to do to get the new goat kids and the turkeys resettled.

And fight the predator wars - WHAT is WITH this year. Four coons, a fox, a possum and counting... ugh.

Try plain old cheap white vinegar for the mineral buildup. Works slower than CLR but it is WAY cheaper and "greener" too!

I tried vinegar for two days. Then Limeaway and it LAUGHED. Then went to CLR in desperation. It was about 1/8 or more of an inch thick and truly ugly.

I had been thinking about this, and was wondering how plan old Coke a Cola would do. Supposedly that stuff will disolve a whole human tooth in a few weeks if you left it in a cup. At least that was the rumor I heard. Try some Coke and see if it works and report back to us!
