Hi everyone,

I am going to try and start building my own incubator like the one here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=7562-The_GopherBator

I
just had one question, how often do you turn the eggs and how/how much do you turn them? I'm assuming since it looks like the egg basket doesnt turn more than a few degrees in either direction that you only move them a little bit so I figured I'd ask.

Ya turn at least 3 times a day. Odd numbered times so that they spend the night on a different side each night. Each time you turn you move them as far from one side to the other as you can. Most turners go to about 45 degrees.

Ok thanks, do you turn it, then turn it back, or turn it and leave it in that spot?

turn it and leave it til next time. it is to keep it from sticking to the shell. so like 8 hours on one side then 8 on the other and so on

I hatched mine in a converted wine chiller. I put the eggs in 2 cartons. I marked an X one end and and O on the other. I propped a carton on the left wall and a carton of the right wall, both at a 45 degree angle. When I turned the eggs, I would pull out the carton, spin it around and place it back where it was. By spinning it around the eggs were laying the opposite way. On day 19 I put the eggs on a hatching tray I made out of one of the shelves that came with the chiller.
