tuxedo quail question

i just hatched out some chicks and some are yellow with a black dot on there head others r more brown then anything is this normal will have pic when i find the camrea

Congrats on the hatch.
The yellow ones will be white and the other ones I would guess to be range (Rosetta) But I am not the best chick identifier.

Congrats on the hatch as well, and I'm not the best chick identifier either , but it looks like you have some whites,browns, and rosetta, in your mix.

You may have a Tux in the mix, but I can't really tell until they grow up, so I'll wait for the experts

On another note: It looks like you have vastly different age birds/other species; together in the last pic. If that's the case, you may want to rethink that

yea i got 4 baby chickens that hatched at the same time as the quail. in the morning they'll be getting seperate boxs but since i had to work and only had one box dug out since there almost 2 days early was hoping that it would work ok for now. also the eggs i bought were marked tuxedo but im new to it so im guessing there a cross of 2 different breeds?

If the Parent birds were tuxedos you will get almost any color chick.

Well, I'm not going to school you on the various bio hazards of raising game birds and chickens together. I assume you can google things or at least search the forum.

Tuxedo coturnix can not be line bread, so if you got eggs marked "TUXEDO", then the person that marked them that way, has access to 25th century technology, or is just guessing about the tux content which should be (+/- 25%) of total hatch.

On a side note: It looks like you have a nice mix of of chicks, and crossing rossetta with white, is where the tux comes from. About 25% +/- .

yea i no the hazards of raising them togather thats why all the pens i got for the quail are at least 50yrds away from my chickens and the chicks r now saperate from each other. went and dug out my other brooder box this morning. thanks for the info on why they look differnt i mainly got bobwhite but decided tuxedo looked cool and want to trie them should of read a little more before i got them but either way im happy with them.

Well this is a really old thread, but the answer to your question is vent sexing. You cannot just look at feathers and know with the Tux birds. You will have to look for foam, wait for a crow, or wait for an egg.
