Are they Tibetan Tuxedos? If they are the male will be smaller, and have sort of white-ish lines crossing his back. I will try and get photos up asap. The females are larger, and have solid colouring of just the solid dark colouring.
Im sorry if this isnt much help, its hard to explain without visuals.

I developed this method for sexing coturnix for people who don't want to go around lookin at bird butts. Get you a can of mealworms, toss em in the pen. The roos will pick up a worm and start chattering, kind of a low giggle. The hens will run over and take it from him, at which time he usually tries to mount her. This has worked 100% of the time I have been doing it. It has worked on ever color cot I had tried it on. The browns are visual sexing so I don't even waste the worms, but for Tibs, Whites, and all your different colors. I started doing this last summer and it hasn't failed me yet.

good to know digger I don't think I want to try it on a pen of 60 but might make sexing a smaller bunch easier.

According to the online Japanese quail genetic calculator half will be tuxedos, 25% Tibetan based English whites, and 25% Tibetans.
