TV Dinners~ bad for you?

Crockpots, man...crockpots. I can stuff an entire deboned hog leg into one, empty a bottle of bbq sauce into it, and eat on it for a week. Keep another one going for beans too.

Crockpots were made for people who were lazy, as well as people who were busy. Both ends of the culinary spectrum covered.

As for the tv dinners, what's worse...the plastic or the ingredients in the food?

It's not that hard. I'm suffering in an apartment, doing the whole grad school thing which can feel like a 12 shift, keeping a bunch of pets and making meals for two so we can eat three meals every day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. The key is planning and making your dinners large so they can also serve as a lunch. The cost is about 2.50 a meal and a whole lot more and better for you. Meat, veggies, and grain for all lunches and dinners on about 350 a month.

Try it, you'll like it!

when I was in college I used to make a couple huge meals on one of my days off and then freeze some and keep some in my fridge and all i had to do was warm it up when I was ready to eat it.

and I love my crockpot, !!!!!! so easy when you work long long hours.

TV dinners - SODIUM!!!!!!!!

We eat at home most of the time, homecooked meals. Better for you......just better!

But isn't anyone worried that an unmonitored crock pot could malfunction and cause a fire? I have one and will only use it when I'm home...I guess that's defeating the purpose but keeping something that creates heat plugged in all day when I'm not home makes me nervous.
(but then my DH does call me nervous nelly)

Looks great to me too. Not healthy at all but if you are tired enough and have enough pain...it's wonderful.

Not everyone has the extra it takes to cook.

honestly, I look at it this way. My toaster stays plugged in - an electrical surge could cause a problem. Same for my stove, dryer, TV, DVR, etc etc etc. If you saw the state of the electrical wiring in my basement, the crockpot is the least of my worries though! lol

Basically, if something is going to malfunction, it could be ANY of the appliances in my home. I've got other things to worry about than "what if...."

I've got one acronym-OAMC.

I've eaten two TV dinners in the last year. They were meh (lean cuisine).

I can make a lot more healthy food in one day, portion and freeze in a small chest freezer (which has moved with me from house to apartment to house), and cook up dinner in under 30 minutes. I mean heck - I make Jalapeno Poppers that are twice the size of storebought, complete with cream cheese AND bacon, that are mere fraction of the price of those ones at the store (I used to eat those a LOT before I learned to make them).

agree that nothing is "good for us" but there is "oh that's bad for you" and then there is TV dinners. Especially if you have any issues with high blood pressure or similar. A lot of TV dinners have over 2X the recommended daily amount in just sodium. Add in all the preservatives, high fats, etc and you have a giant medical issue waiting to happen.
