TWH Gait Eval - YouTubeLink

Of course, I know absolutely nothing about gaited horses, and I guess I must need glasses because I thought he was occasionally favoring the off foreleg. Shows how little I know! It goes without saying that the person on the other end of the line really doesn't know much about lunging, no matter what the discipline.

Thank you everyone for your input.

This is the input I got from over at Gaited Horse Sense: http://gaitedhorsesense.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=25088&posts=13&start=1

I
found a local trainer who specializes in gaited horses and have the first lesson on Saturday. Found her on Craigslist and she charges the same to come to your barn ($40.00 hr) as my current trainer. She charges $30.00 if you haul in, but no haul ins with the herpes virus.
Her website here: http://www.allgaitstraining.com/home

She
said she rarely lunges a gaited horse. She plans to bring a few saddles to try on him since I've been having trouble with high withers and saddle fit and wants to evaluate his gait in the saddle. She will evaluate bits and his barefoot trim to see if it appropriate for a gaited guy.

I'm really looking forward to Saturday.

This horse has a strong tendency to pace which can really turn off natural gaited folks. Many of your big lick horses are rather pacy as this is desired for the heavy pads they wear for the show ring. This horse is resisting being lunged not only because of being separated from the pack, but because pacy horses have difficulty going in a small circle.

This horse will require lots of conditioning, proper tack, and should be ridden with a nice rounded frame.

Go take a peek ad Gaits of Gold website and see if these folks work for you.

When I had gotten my first horse, I spent hours hanging out on the forum and purchases two 4-Beat saddles (1 western/1 endurance), saddle pad, have-a-heart pad, ride n tie, comfort bit, videos, book, bumper sticker, T-Shirt. I LOVED IT ALL. Out of my price range now unless I find a deal off Craigslist or Ebay.

Racking would be nice. I'll update after the gaited trainer evaluates him during her lesson on Saturday.

My Buddy is 17 yrs old and is pretty 'young looking'.
