So cute!!View attachment 2796433Here's the newest member of the flock! She/he is a little smaller than the others but already eating, drinking, and pooping! My brother and I are brainstorming names and looking through all your suggestions. When we finally agree on something I'll post it but for now enjoy the cuteness!
Adorable! It's amazing that he/she hatched!View attachment 2796433Here's the newest member of the flock! She/he is a little smaller than the others but already eating, drinking, and pooping! This would become a full assist for chicks who pipped the wrong end correct? I would presume that they will have nothing to kick against to hatch themselves...or would they be able to hatch themselves just fine? Sorry for the questions! I have no experience with opening from the bottom end, since I’ve often read that they would need to kick up against something to hatch themselves. Would love to know more because I haven’t had experience with opening the egg at the non-pip end, and don’t want to be parroting false information
Personally, I haven’t found it any harder to see the veins opening fat side vs pointed side. The wong end just requires a little more concentration and patience, where the fat end could be just crack crack crack, loool!
The assisted hatch page advised to free the head end, so that’s what I’ve been doing, whether it’s air cell side or otherwise![]()

That makes sense! I usually post the link to assisted hatching guide, but I’m pretty sure not everyone reads it since it’s pretty long. That's completely dependant on each individual hatch but it doesn't prevent the chick from being able to rotate, no. The top image I posted was of a chick that got stuck while zipping. There were almost zero risks with me opening either end at that point but especially when I'm trying to teach someone else how to assist I always show the method with the least chance for mistakes. If you hatch often or have assisted many times you'll start to see when it's safe without taking the additional steps but even when I'm doing an eggtopsy where I'm fairly certain the chick has passed, I'm the type to open the egg like an assisted hatch because you never know! Always better to be safe than sorry.

One hatched, the other one wasn’t developed :)How are the little ones? Names for both of them decided yet?
