Twins are growin ~ UP-DATE

Hi SunnyChookFarm- what happened with the twins? Wasn't Oct. 2nd the due date? Hope they made it but don't feel bad if they didn't. The way I see it, they will most certainly die if I EAT the egg but there's always a chance they might make it if I try and hatch the egg. I have another double yolker in bator right now and I can tell that at least one is developing. My other double yolker made it all the way to hatch day but I couldn't get them out alive. But they were alive and breathing and of equal size when I started trying to pip the egg and get them out. One was yellow, one was black. I still believe it can be done.

Sorry everyone, I'm just getting chance to log in. My hubby has been ill (he's doing better now) so other matters were first priority. I pipped egg on day 19, they both were alive, removed a little more shell on day 21 (were I could see what was going on) and a little more on day 22. both were alive and moving good and a normal size, but they had not absorbed all their yoke sac yet and they were not connect. Both were balk in color.

night of day 23 they were doing good, next morning they were dead , not sure what happened

I will be trying again! But will wait longer before pipping. You know as w/ many twins, maybe it just takes longer. We'll see.

Ruth, good luck. Let me know how it goes.

Collecting those double yokes to try again

Awwww...sounds like you did a great job though! :aww My double yolker only had one developing, but when I candled it last night, I think it was dead. I'm gonna give it a couple more days and see.

So sorry to hear they didn't make it. It is so frustrating to see them alive on pip day and then not make it. I was so sure my two would make it out alive or I would be able to help them out. I'm like you, I realize now that they needed more time than a single chick and if I ever get another one that far I will wait a day longer to pip them.

My double yolker didn't get far. One yolk started developing but stopped at just a few days with nothing more than a tadpole size embryo.

I will try again as I get more double yolkers. I know there are those that say it can't be done but people said that about flight and many other things. I read once that Thomas Edison's light bulb invention room was on the second floor of his home and he would throw every bulb that didn't work out the window. By the time he got one that did work, there was a mountain of bulbs outside his window that went all the way to the second floor. I also know there are those that say "They will die" but they will die anyway if I don't try and just eat the egg instead. I am convinced that if I had waited another day or two I could have gotten them out. As it was, because it was too early, the membrane was still too bloody.
