TWINS hatch day!

Sorry they could not make it out on their own. I know the excitement of twins. Most only make it to day 10. So good for you.

Hello! I have twin silkie chicks on day 11 of incubation right now and I am wondering what article you used for support?

Our silkie twins are hatching today! Hopefully. This morning one pipped on the wrong end, as we assumed he would. I pulled the shell away and put bacitracin on the membrane. We can see his beak but no movement. Not sure if he’s alive anymore since he poked thru his membrane and there’s still a lot of veins present. No bleeding that we can see tho. The other baby has internally pipped in the air cell chirping away! We won’t assist unless he doesn’t pip in the next 12 hours or so. This is all new to us so advice is welcome! Going off Sally’s article on how to assist a hatch. Since we have one on each end we are really trying to stay hands off unless necessary. In the pic is the wrong end baby with the shell I pulled off so we can see what he’s doing. View attachment 2586602

It was on here if you search assisted hatch. If I had to do it again I would have done a safety hole as soon as we heard the first baby chirping. Not sure if why they both died but the wrong end baby pipped first and we can just only assume it cause the membrane to break and bleed. Killing the other shoe hadn’t pipped in the air hole

Well they babies died. One pipped thru the membrane and we think he bled out and took his sibling down with him. They were both perfectly formed and almost the entire yolk had absorbed in both of them! Graphic photo below but look how cool that they made it as far as they did!

I’m so sorry for your loss. They are just beautiful. How terribly sad that twins hardly ever make it.

It really is I think that even if I tried to intervene I would have killed them. Wish the one in the air pocket had pipped first!

Was there a lot of blood in the egg? Is that how you know he bled out?
We had twin ducklings and basically the same thing happened.
This was last year when I was just learning.
Now, I truly feel that if I had intervened I may have been able to save them.
The yolk sacs were completely absorbed and there was no blood when I did an eggtopsy.
I should have made a large safety hole on the the side with no air sac, because one had piped in the air sac and the other had no air sac to pip in.
I still feel horrible to this day because I truly believe I could have saved them.
Your situation may have been completely different, especially if one bled out, there is no hope at that point.
I’m so sad for you and I’m so very sorry.
