Hi! I am new to chicken raising and I recently purchased 8 chicks from TSC. I have had them 5 weeks. I have two straight run barred rocks, and they couldn’t look more different. One is very dark with minimal bars, and already has a pretty significant comb and wattle compared to all other chicks. The other is very light with big bars, and a more yellow comb so far. Any guesses on their sex?! They are around 5 1/2 weeks old I believe.

Haha I was just looking at pictures of barred rock roosters at this age to make shure my barred rock hen was a hen she definitely is, I ordered pullets but I dont trust the sexing anymore after last year one of my 20 pullets I ordered ended up being a roo haha. Yea I would say that darker one with the big comb is a rooster.

Also whats with the zip ties on their legs? Did they come with them like that lol just curious.

we use different colored zip ties as leg bands for identification, we got that idea from a forum here on BYC. It’s worked really well so far!
