I woke up this morning and a rooster and a hen were both dead. Both in the creek. The run isn’t very sturdy, so whatever it was could have been anything. I’ve had raccoons in the past, but when I first found the corpses there was a skunk eating the hen.
My questions are these:
1. Can a skunk take down a full sized rooster?
2. Should I be concerned that a skunk was 2 feet away from me in broad daylight, and just…… casually walked away? Like, I looked over the edge of the creek, and it didn’t try to spray or anything. It just stared at me for a second, got up, and walked away? Do they usually do that?

Anyway, here’s each bird how it was found, and the skunk wandering off into the woods.

Skunks will massacre a flock given the opportunity. They attack at night when chickens are helpless. Seeing them in daylight often just means they are hungry, not rabid. It's pretty common when they have young, actually. They'll also kill more than they can eat and revisit the food later.
