Hey.
We just hatched out some Ayam Cemani eggs. 18 in total. We also had 30 orpington eggs.
The Orp. where from or own flock and the Cemani were from a breeder in the area.
The orpington eggs hatched out at 85%, however the Cemani only did 8 out of 18.
6 survived and 2 died shortly after.
2 eggs where infertile.
8 appeared to develop nicely until day 16-18 but died in the egg.
Any thoughts why they did so poor?
Any info, or thoughts would be appreciated!
Contacted breeder but haven't heard back.

Hi there, welcome to BYC! :frow

Congratulations on your hatch. :celebrate

I think I read AC eggs can be bit harder to hatch.. maybe due to limited genetic diversity of a more rare breed.

So many things can happen with hatching.. I think quitting analysis as to reasons why according to what day they quit starts on page 51 of the following link...
Incubation guide

16/18 showing development... generally means the seller has met their end of the bargain. It's always good to ask them what their actual personal hatch rate (and experienced fertility) is and how recent. We can only hope our suppliers are awesome enough to know about good nutrition, collecting & storing hatching eggs, etc. Also ask them if they use any special incubation/hatching method.

As a breeder.. I very much like to know the hatch results and discuss it... if it did happen to be nutrition related.. I can't fix what I don't know. But I can trouble shoot even If I don't feel liable to provide more eggs per say.

Did the ones that hatched and survived have straight toes, no splay leg or other deformities that you can see? What incubator were you using and other parameters please? Same hatch date to? :)

Hey.
Thanks for the reply.
All the chicks that hatched looked to have good feet no splay leg or other deformities. There was one that looked like it may have got shrink wrapped. (it died shortly after hatching). The others looked fine. Even the ones that died in shell looked to be normal.
We use a Brisnea Ovation 56 fully automatic.
Humidity 1-17 37%
18-21 70%
Temp. 35.4-35.5

We have never had a hatch rate under 75%. Usually in the low to mid 80's. We have only hatched our own eggs in the past and this was the first time buying from this breeder.
I understand there are many variables to hatching we just found it odd that they did so poorly compared to the others.
