Any time a hen goes broody, you always let them hatch the eggs. Its a great expierience for you and the hen. If I were you, I would take her to a private spot on her own. Although, in my expierience I have had many hens hatch thier eggs succesfully in the coop, the hen will have less stress and confusion beetween other hens or nesting boxes and will have more chances of getting full hatch. If the hen you have is mean to you and you do not want the chicks to be that way, I would take the chicks away. But if you want to have fun watching your nice hen teach your chicks, you should let the hen have them.
I think I will wait til she hatches and see what happens because I really don't want to move her right now. This is her first clutch, so am not quite sure if she's a mean one or not. She pecks at me when I reach under her, but otherwise I think she'll do fine. I will just let time tell. One more week to go.
They're peeping, I can hear them! It should be anytime now! It's so exciting. I know I am going to be going out to the coop today a lot! They haven't pipped the eggshell yet.
I was just out there again, and they're starting to pip through the eggs. So far 3 have pipped.
I did notice that mamma wasn't on them when I went out, is this normal? I did put her back on them because I figured they needed the warmth. This will be my first hatch by a broody hen.
