Two Broodys On Same Nest

My two Serama girls co-brooded, hatched, and are still co-parenting the 6 chicks who will be 6 weeks Sunday. They both take care of all of the chicks.

I think that’s how it’s going to be with these two.
The chicks go to either one of them and they don’t seem to be jealous of each other.

Our birds regularly co brood, sometimes it is 3 hens sharing. Rarely any conflicts though spats can occur they are usually minor and short lived. All hens take care of any chick in their vicinity and chicks routinely run from one hen to the next to see who has goodies. When they are out ranging we often see one hen acting as the 'warmer' and another scratching and feeding. This separation of duties is also noted when a trio of hens is out.
Since our broodies are in the coop with main flock we often see 'aunts and uncles' also tending chicks in their vicinity. Once your flock is used to broodies and chicks it is a lot of fun to watch the chick activities.

Unfortunately we had to rehome one of our roosters because he was spurring DH.
So the girls are in a state of transition right now.
I put the Australorp cockerel in a separate fenced off yard with his girls.
On this side with the chicks we are starting over with bantam roosters so the bantam hens don’t get so squished.
They’ll get a break for several months since the bantam cockerels are only 6 weeks old.

One of our younger hens just went broody. She is a mean one so I was hesitant to give her eggs. Thinking she might teach the chicks to be that way. Gave her 8 anyway. She is still in the nesting box in the main coop with 12 other hens and 3 roosters. Only problem so far is when she gets up to do her business one of the other hens jump in there to lay even though there are 9 other boxes. The just can't resist a pile of eggs. I just have to keep pulling the other ones off and put them in another box. Will move mama and eggs at 19 days. I was late last time. Had to move hen chicks and eggs.

It makes it easier if you use sharpie and Mark the eggs that she's hatching so that you can tell which are extras that got snuck in with her. With her being a grump though, it might be hard to actually remove any unwanted eggs though lol

I usually give my hens falsies until I can isolate them from the flock. I hate dealing with staggered hatches.

Yes eggs are marked, Lol. This bird actually bites, most only peck. She bites pretty hard! Lol

I had a broody duck like that once. I couldn't even look at her and be within reach or she would try to rip me apart lol
