two brother Roo's fighting

A friend of mine had 2 cockerels and 6 hens, that she raised from chicks, and one of them ended up killing the other. They were barred rocks.

I have a slew of roosters (and a slew is more than ten, in my case) which do not fight. One did, and he was culled with a shovel. Mean, mean, mean and destructive bantam cochin, of all birds!

They spar for dominance and settle down once that is established. Everybody's flock is different, but having two roos is not necessarily a death sentence for either of 'em. Especially if they have been raised with each other.

I have added roosters (well, chicks which turned into roosters, I didn't specifically ADD roosters!!!!) which grew up in the flock with older birds and even they learned their place in the pecking order without mayhem. Mostly they fluff up their hackle feathers and stare each other down. Occasionally there is some pecking and feather loss, but nothing serious at all.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

scary stuff with the B Rocks! my roo's are otherwise gentle boys... they let the girl eat first, they go to roost last, they get put in thier place by the hens often as well. they did well free ranging today together, but when I scooted them back in the coop for the night they started in a bit.... I just turned the light off early and said Go to bed! they will have to deal with eachother while back in the pen (very good size pen) for the work week though. I dont think they would go for the death, but they do make eachother bleed and that does scare me! when they did that about a month ago I was afraid to leave them together to go back to work but when i got home everything was fine and they didnt fight again til this weekend.
