So DH and I were in the house this evening. He was glued to the TV watching some football game and I was in the other room reading through the posts here on the BYC forum.
It was around 8pm and all our feathered friends were all tucked in for the night. (Chickens in their coop...ducks in their house and quail in their cage) The kitchen window was open to let in some cool night air when all of a sudden we heard the chickens going crazy!
We both jumped up and ran to the mud room to arm ourselves and prepare for battle. The conversation went something like this:
DH: Where's my shoes?
Me: Where's my shoes?
DH: I'll get a flashlight...where's my shoes?
Me: Did you move my walking stick?
DH: Where's my shoes?
Me: I'll turn on the spotlight, your shoes are in the corner. Where's my shoes?
Me: Wait for me.
We looked like the Keystone Cops for crying out loud!
We got up to the coop and the girls had settled down a bit, but something was surely there. Nothing was disturbed and we checked the perimeter for any attempt at a hole but still nothing. I'll thinking maybe a bat had gotten in when we closed them up tonight then managed to slip out when we went up to check to see what was going on.
At any rate....I'm organizing an emergency "Run to the Coop" corner in the mud-room as soon as I get home from work tomorrow.
