Hi all
These are my two 3 wk old chicks, sold to me as Sapphire Gem by a general store that had about 13 different breeds come in on that busy morning. I am aware this breed is newer and can be tough to ID and sex especially if they aren't bred just so. I know maybe this will make it difficult this early but I am hoping someone can recognize characteristics in the breed it might actually be? Every photo/vid I have found online or been shown of Sapphire Gem babies shows them fully light lavender grey by 2 weeks so I am pretty skeptical they are what I had hoped for, as mine have lots of deep gray even black feathers mixed with dots of light grey. Maybe they are cockerels of the correct breed- the photos I've seen of adult SG males have much darker plumage.
As far as other characteristics they are EXTREMELY hyper. I have never encountered chicks that full on zoom around the brooder all day long at 2 weeks and on. Theyre also huge and walk very tall. They cant stand to be picked up or held either, and we've had them since day 2.
Anyway I would love some experts to weigh in. I just want to get any idea of what I am dealing with obviously so I can better diagnose breed specific issues etc going forward. Thanks everyone. Pics below.
