Another question to you all.
I have a two day old chick that, when hatched, has a pea size yolk externally. His vent is clear but his poop and or yolk gets all over his behind, is that normal? I have bathed it a couple of hours ago, and this is an attached pic now. Can anyone advise me?

This is called poopy butt.
Keep this area clean with warm water.
Don't pull it off.
Placing a little vaseline on it should help too.

Double check the temp in your brooder...make sure it's not too hot.

Thank you for your reply. I will purchase some vaseline in the morning. Shall i clean once a day or more frequently? So there is nothing actually wrong with it.
I honestly never realised how many things could go wrong with chicks, this is my first time hatching and only one egg out of four has been stress free!

I am using a heat plate, i have adjusted the lets so as the front is slightly higher and they can then choose that perfect comfort spot

It's very important to keep it clean.
It can block the chick from being able to poop.
As a dash of AVC in their water, it should clear it right up.
(apple cider vinegar with the mother in it)

Ive just google it. I will get some in the morning too. May i ask one more question as im stressing over a chick that hatched four hours ago
