Two Ducklings dying

If I had to guess they were a couple days old. The momma was hit by a car.
We got them this past Sunday and the first one died that night and the second one died the next day.
They ate the food the first day and second day.
I had them in a big Tupperware bin with a heat lamp.
I’m including pictures.
How long had they been without food and water when you found them?

Were they hypothermic (too cold)? Hypothermic birds must be warmed up before you gve them water and food.

If they were dehydrated, eating and drinking a bunch could kill them. Always best to offer warm water first. Then once hydration status is correct, offer food.

How big is the bin?

What is the part number of the GE bulb?

What was the temp in the bin?

The bin was a 30gallon Tupperware tub. It was around 90.
I’m not sure how long they were without food and water. Maybe a couple of days.

Can you post a close up picture of the bulb?

It's possible that a 30 gallon bin with a 250 watt might be too hot.

If they did go that long without food, water, and a mother to keep them warm then they were hypothermic, dehydrated, and probably hypoglycemic (low blood sugar).

How many ducklings were there? Just two?

2 ducklings. It was so sad.

Very sad news. Must have been traumatizing for yourself... Just know at the end of the day you did all you could to help them! Ducks sell for $5 a piece you invested more money trying to save them then what they "sell" for!!

My 4 day old duckling (Pekin) died a few weeks ago. He couldn't walk or even stand on his legs and was often found on his back with his legs shaking. For a couple days he seemed to be getting better than one morning was found listless, quiet (which was unusual) and he died a few hours later. Does this sound like this infection?

Edit: He is the duckling in my avatar. This was taken when I thought he was getting better. He could almost stand but balanced on his knees.
It could have been. :hugs
