TWO Ducks w/Laying Problems?

I can't get my usual supply of oyster shells either. I've switched to scratch and peck brand, which I get at a feed store.

Also, my ducks start seeking shade around 70 and panting soon after. Yet they happily swim in ice water at 40 degrees. They just have different temperature experiences than us.

I have several pullets who aren't laying yet, either.

I think I'll just drive to all the Walmarts in a 50 mile radius (I think that's 3 stores) and buy every bag they have - lol! I need some basic stuff, anyway (beach towels, vacuum cleaner bags, flip flops, cheap sheets) and you can't get that stuff locally. I'll make a day of it. I have Monday off.

Woo hoo. Good times.

But it's $6 at WM vs $20 with Small Pet Select. And if I'm there getting other essentials, I can justify using the $8/gallon gas - lol! Just LOOOVE this inflation.

Figgy has been through hotter weather without problem. I didn't have Julep last summer to compare. But I AM putting the AC unit in the coop today. That will help.

@Aunt Angus How are your girls doing?
You know... I'm starting to this they're fine. My ducks typically lay every day, so I started to get worried when I'd noticed 3 or 4 eggs in the nest every day instead of 5. But I think that they may not be laying as often because they're older, the weather is making them uncomfortable, and I added several chickens, which I think has interfered.

In other words, I am being paranoid again.

But I'm still taking Figgy to be checked over the vet.

There is definitely nothing wrong with being over cautious with a prey animal. The signs for illness can be pretty subtle sometimes.

Mine have been laying less eggs as the season has continued. I was getting 19-20 eggs, I get more like 13-14 now. I have a lot of broody ducks right now and they don't tend to lay as often when they are broody.
