OK this is a possible xpost from the actual backyard chickens but:
This morning I found two eggs on the grass(picture taken in bin). About 8 meters sightly uphill from the double brooding nest and 11 from the better protected one. The Drake is defensive of both nests and moves between these 2 nests. One of them looks like a kill the other one gone off?

I'm in Ireland so no raccoons or skunks here. If it was a fox I suspect the ducks would be dead too. No chance of a dog coming in. Our cats ... well they are their ducks (one of them sits occasionally on the single nest only to be chased of by mother on return <she knows he goes on when she leaves>

The 2 eggs are from the double brooding (blue) nest.
There was a 3rd cracked and seemingly unfertalised egg in the nest (both girls went for a swim.in the pond) We are nearly 3 weeks into brooding so i did not expect a ckean yoke
