Yesterday around noon I got my first egg. My son found it and I think he was more excited then I was. The today I went out to watch them for a while and I saw the hen I suspected was the layer sitting where I store the straw. She layed there panting for 10 minutes or so then she rose about an inch off the ground and stopped panting. By this time my daughter and wife was there.[IMG] The hen then turned real pale and plop, an egg dropped. That was the second first. Of all the years I spent growing up with chickens I never saw one layed. That was fricking cool!! [IMG]

Yay! I just recently saw one laid myself. It was kind of funny, as the chicken had laid it on the coop floor and it came out with this little *thunk* Funny! Congrats again.

Isn't it funny when they lay? I kind of feel like I'm offending them... almost like if someone sat and watched me on the toilet! [IMG] But, I do it anyway and it never gets old. [IMG]

I have a plymouth rock, 6 buffs and a RI hen and roo. The red is the one laying the eggs and she took a liken to me from the start. She was a tad freaked out at first when I walk in there and even let me pet her head a bit. I was a bit surprised she was the first to lay but that is another part that makes this whole thing fun.
