Two of our four year old flock just up and died.....one Tuesday, one perhaps Wednesday night. When my wife was feeding them Wednesday, she mentioned that the second one was lethargic and didn't look good. Any ideas? Is there any risk in consuming eggs?

Welcome to BYC.
I am sorry for your loss.

What breed?
How long did you have them?
What did you feed them?
Any new birds brought in recently and last...did you notice anything different or off about these two recently, beside the lethargy.

They were four years old......as to breed, um....well, one was red, one was black. We feed them a layer food from a local farmer plus a variety of treats, dried worms and earthworms. This batch of chickens is our third over the last six or seven years. Others have died of old age, but these were the first to die within a few days of each other. We just want to be sure the eggs we harvest are edible. These were p[art of our latest batch of chicks from four years ago. No noticeable change in any behavior,

I wouldn't feel comfortable telling you that it is safe to eat eggs from a bird that just died not knowing why she died but I can tell you that I am pretty sure egg factory farms sell eggs from hens that suddenly died.
