two geese wont go home

naw they just hang out actoss the street... Hubby herede them up the hill next door yard which is supposedly next to their owners place, to get them out of the street again... but they wandered back down
I yell at them once in a while "go home honk honks"
I dont know why THE owners arent trying more. course they could be some.
since I cant see out front when I am in the back field. I also have bad vision and wouldnt notice.w/o being close up.
I think by now if the owners wanted them back they would have gotten them. Please try and find a safe home for them before winter sets in or go talk to the owners see if they want them back and offer to help. Food will be very scarce once it gets real cold and they will starve. If you go on the Kentucky thread someone may offer to take them. Or at least help owners and you catch them and take them home. @ladyearth

SAD news.. Some DA hit the female. They prob didnt even brake. I think I heard a thud when I was in the back. So many DAs come flying down our steep road. Mpst people have been slowing down and going around them when they cross the small road of my busy street.
Heck I had to wave down the other 3 or 4 cars to keep them from running over her body while Hubby was getting his gloves on and his cart.....
I didnt see it.. but when I came up the hill from the seeing to my flock. I saw the one in our yard honking. Prev Hubby had put some wtr in a pan and some of our layer feed in a flat pan for them . near our side yard.. Also I threw them some yellow dried split peas yesterday when they wandered in our backyard...
well finally got on the phone and talked to the owner. Told her Hubby was burying the poor female. I am glad she was in the phone book,,,,
She told me that her brother gave the pair to her three weeks ago....
heck prob days later is when I spotted them in the tall grass next door . when they flew out of their NEW yard..
I didnt know but they have been going back to their owner every morning and she fed them, she said she is in her 70s.. Prob a widow.
I heard the male... few minutes ago honking from acroos the street. Dark outside now I believe they have been going into the (other neighbor's across the street ) garage that has no door on it every nite to sleep.
I hope the male goes "home" tomorrow and stays... it is too dangerous on this road
she said they were born first of this year... SO sad I dint have time to talk long cause it was getting close to dark and I had stuff to do myself....
I took the broom out and gently shooed mine out of the front to the backyard and told them to stay away from the stree t!!!! the spoiled rotten bunch..
take care

@ladyearth that is very sad. and could have been prevented if the neighbor had gotten someone to help her catch them. But that is beside the point now. But hoping the gander will go home is probably wishful thinking since he probably really doesn't know where home is if him and his mate flew out shortly after they arrived at her home. I sure wish yall could get a group of friends or neighbors up and catch him before he gets killed too. Maybe ask her if she minds you keep him and find him a safe home some where away from the road. Did you ever go on the Kentucky thread and ask if anyone is interested. Do you know for sure the one left is gander?

Bless you and husbands hearts for trying and for burying her.

it is prob too that since they didnt grow up there at ladys house.... that that is not home to them.? well now him??? I am a betting they were raised on home with a big acreage
I dont even know if she had a coop etc for them. Been so busy tending to my group, gardening winding down now frosts has showed up I havent contacted her again yet. well he was always louder anyway. I have to ask LADY if they were a pair....It too late tonight to call her
If I tried to ask a neighbor around here they would laugh..... Mostly seniors on this street(including us) and houses are acreages,,,far apart except the two directly across the street.....
They have no pets...and dont want any...
I am surprised someone hasnt shot the geese so far to eat, or be mean, or cant stand the honking.
Cause I know the one neighbor has taken out feral cats.. I dont know how the gander gets any sleep since he just honked as Im typing, prob cars driving by even though its past 10:30 PM .now...
take care

talked to lady again over phone. She said the male has NOT, not gone home to her in the morning to eat "corn" since Thursday morning....
She said her brother brought over to her two more GEESE.... The parents of the two others... While she was out....They are caged she said for now.
She has no coop etc. She said previously years ago. she had two ducks with 12 little babies ducks. Some predators got them over time.... the ducks used to sleep under her toolshed she said...
In my opinion no wonder no coop
Oh she said her brother has 50 acres and a barn. He said the geese were tormenting his 40 plus goats.. that why he gave them to her. I just shake my head and feel sorry for the geese. she thinks if the remaining live goose comes up the hill of our road..... to her house.... and sees his Mama and Papa he may hang around and stay...
I SURE HOPE so. Cause I hear HIM honking off and on(prob at passing cars) while I am typing.....Its too dark to see him but I know he is acroos the road....Oh also she just feeds cracked corn . I told her I read that they need a balanced feed like "all flock"feed....or a STARTER feed.
I did put out water again for him and saw him drinking... I also put out some LAYER FEED but he didnt partake... Later my bunch at the feed and the cracked peas I put out for him also drinking his water. So I went out and took water from MY BUNCH and emptyied it. Latr when my bunch went to their locked run and coop. I rinsed out and put in new water...
I still yell "HONK< HONK go home""""
Oh Hubby said the breed is American Gray... according to a website.. HE is handsome and SHE WAS pretty....GOOSE
Hubby is after me to find a home for our flock cause he said hes tired of the whole chicken thing..... treating for worms. bnding feet, syringing meds. Getting up every single day and letting them out and placing feed and water etc. WE HAVE NO LIFE. I told him no one wants 10 girls who been producing maybe one egg a day, esp with molting.... Now more with runny WATERRY POO....
.Its "Groundhog Day the movie" is our life here. He wants our no PET life back and so do I and get out out this house and all the lawn maintenace for over 2 acres...and to our other home....just sitting there..
thanks for listening

I truly understand what your saying it takes alot of our time when we have animals. But we under took this so they are our responsibility to care for them. I would hope you'd go on the Kentucky thread and ask if anyone wants your hens and this goose. You never know and it maybe someone close by too. Just hoping the goose will go home and see his parents and stay? well I'd think that would have already happened don't you? Look how long he has been there now across from you and now that is where his mate was killed so he isn't going to leave with out someone makes him. Please go on the thread i gave you and ask for help tell them you want to give up your hens and you need help with this goose. This neighbor if she really wanted this goose would have gotten brother or someone to help her get him back. HE needs a safe home before he ends up like his mate. Please don't come back on here to tell us he has been killed too. Find homes for your chickens and this goose and go back to your other home and live pet free. If you'd like I will help you post on the Kentucky thread just PM me if you'd like. Nothing is going to change as far as giving up your chicken and this goose unless you take the first step to make it happen. .

Do you REally REALLY think someone would want my unproducing , runny poo chickens? I dont know what they have, its prob some bacteria like columst. perfinges....
Plus not cage them? let them roam 1/2 acre or more ? No kill them cause they arent perfect? Plus Roo ? keep them in a nice secure coop at night ?
I read on here all the time when someone takes on other chickens , especially adult chickens and they are so sorry. esp when a sickness is brought in
to their flock...
Heck I accidentally stepped on my loving Nonnie today. I was trying to gently push Roo off her and I lost my balance on this hilly uneven ground...
I am so lucky too that they have NOT tripped me getting under my feet so much. Just what I need at my age is to fall..
Plus Hubby tried to herd Honk Honk today to side back area hoping he would go home thru the backyards...
That was a mistake, Honk Honk just flew past his long branch he was using. and headed out front again
We did give him tubs of water to get in today and a small bucket to drink. I put out my layer feed He didnt touch it...just the water and picked at the just mowed yard...
Heck the owners brother is prob older than her....she is 73 and has real bad arthritis.. She said...
Plus I cant give him away he is not mine.
I hope to get Hubby to drive up the hill and talk to her in person with me tomorrow.
thanks OH I posted on the KENTUCKY FORUM

@ladyearth I am sorry I didn't know your chickens were sick no not too many would want sick chickens or unproducing chickens unless it was someone who liked to help animals in need. Are you treating them?

I just mentioned about finding homes for your chickens because it doesn't sound like yall want the work anymore.

Honk Honk needs help and I am grateful your trying but maybe it will take a few more to herd him into an area where you want him to go , Slowly herd. My geese will go anywhere I herd them as long as I walk slow behind them so they don't freak out. I know he isn't yours to give away that is why I was hoping you'd talk to your neighbor about finding him a safe home since it doesn't look good for him going back to her.

Did you get any response from the Kentucky thread?

Yeah a response a lecture...
well anyway we drove up to see the owner... she only had cracked corn out for them.. They were down at her pond the... Parents of Honk Honk on the far side.....She said they only spent the nite in the brothers metal cage to get them used to being there.. They looked quite content.
I just wish she had a secure place for night time for them... we only stayed a few minutes....
we brought back some of her cracked corn to feed him and I added some pf my dry split peas...
Now Hubby will help me get out our big cage and try to slowly lure him into it...and hopefully gethim down to where he belongs...
