Yesterday, I came home and discovered that my horses were not in the dry lot where they were in the morning. They were in the pasture eating the nice spring grass. I thought that they had broken through the hot wire. I went to get them and discovered that the wire wasn't broken, nor were any posts down. The insulated handle was off the hook and laying a few yards to the side totally undamaged. I thought that it was wierd, but not an impossibility that a horse could have done it. Then I saw the walk through gate on the main fence (wooden not wire). It was open. I was darn lucky that the horses went into the pasture, instead of the yard. If they had chosen the yard, they could have ended up in the road. Last night I was at the neighbor's house and told her about it. She said that she had come home and discovered that her garage had been opened. Her acreage is currently for sale. We have had a ton of people driving by slowly looking at her house and the area. Previously, she has come home to her gates left open. It seems that people are deciding to check out the property when she's not home and with no appointment with a realtor. My barn is across the street from her property. I can only assume that one of the lookers decided to come see the pretty ponies. How can people be so stupid. Not only do they trespass, but they leave gates open. I am very thankful that no horses were in the road and nobody foundered on the spring grass.
