We had one of our RIR get broody (this was a first us...since we are newbies) and she was killing the chicks as they were born. She got three before we could stop her.
That left two eggs that were barely starting to hatch, so we took them and put them under a heat lamp and last night they both popped out!
They have been two happy campers all day. We crushed a little bit of chick starter for them and put it in the box, along with some water and they are pecking away at it this evening.
One has gotten the hang of the waterer and the other one is catching on, so it looks like we are going to save them!
We have now come "full circle" because we got our birds when they were just three days old and now our babies have babies! Pretty cool really...
