Two NonCrested birds produce a crest?

Hello,
My Breeding Pair of Red Tiger Swallows produced a baby with a head crest? This is there last baby of the year, and Im intrigued? I know nothing about genetics but I didnt think two uncrested birds could carry that gene? I thought they either had it or they didnt.

If this is the case then it sounds like both parents were carrying a recessive gene.

25% Crest , 25% split crest , 50% non crest........now the split crest and non crest will look the same, will not know the split until you breed them.


Now that % is over a large number of birds
