Two of my Pekins attacked by....šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø Deep wounds... help .. šŸ˜¢

Weasel or Mink maybe? Those wounds look similar to the ones my Golden Layer got last Fall. It was a mink. Iā€™ve trapped 2 now. I bought electric poultry netting and havenā€™t had a single issue with the ducks. They wonā€™t leave the 160ā€™ perimeter even with half the fence down! Either memory from a shock or they find it secure?? Good luck! Iā€™m sorry to hear about your loss and injuries to your babies. Good Karma coming your way!
Aw thank you so much for taking the time to respond! I actually looked up mink in the beginning, but Iā€™m not sure Ive heard of them in the area?! But whatever it was, it was ruthless! I think my dogs probably spoked it bc it did a number on my girl thatā€™s stil alive :(

How is she doing?
Hi!! There! I tried to make a post with an update but Iā€™m not sure if it uploaded šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø lol! But gosh, I think sheā€™s ok! She is only really eating and drinking when I come in there and kinda show it to her. Her superficial wounds all look great! The major wound, is hard to tell really! I donā€™t really have a basis to go on, to compare it to. Sometimes I look at it and I think when I was healing and then other times I think gosh is that normal? Her spirits are better today, I though she was looking depressed yesterday, so after I put my little one down and did some laundry I went out to the barn at 1:30 AM and sat out there with her for a good hour!
Thank you all for checking in, so sweet ā¤ļøAnd nice to know thereā€™s people who can relate to the circumstance and with the same feelings šŸ™šŸ¼

Good to hear she is hanging in there. Keep watch on that deep wound smell will alert you to infection. And pus will also give you an idea. Did you trim the feathers away from it. You don't want them getting stuck as the wound closes. You don't have to pluck if you don't feel comfortable but trimming would be good. That way you can keep a better eye on it too.

I actually have a picture of a couple of the feathers I wasnā€™t sure about. Not sure if itā€™s normal to be pretty puffy around the root since itā€™s literally the core of wear the feathers start? Mind if I post it and you could see what you think? I have not plucked any feathers or trimmed šŸ˜£Iā€™ve never had to do anything like this nor seen such an open wound, so Iā€™m super nervous about doing it

now on this Second picture youā€™ll notice down toward the bottom where those feathers are in the inside of the wound, the base almost looks like .. um.. I donā€™t know , I just did would compare it to like a cyst or in grown hair on a human?! And honestly, I have no idea about the rest either! There is no Real odor except normal pinned up duck odor. And not sure if that is what it is supposed to resemble as itā€™s healing! D7890EE6-9F04-4F4B-A81F-99916D3CF170.jpeg B06C055A-4991-4359-B47A-5F8BCD78F7AA.png
