Two questions for gun control people

I guess I'm the only one to actually read The Dick Act of 1903 (aka The Militia Act of 1903 (32 Stat. 775) ). It was initiated by the Secretary of War following the Spanish–American War of 1898, after the war demonstrated weaknesses in the militia, and in the entire U.S. military.

The preamble reads:

Like it or not you are part of the militia.

Very interesting but, apparently, irrelevant to the discussion at present.

The Militia acts of 1792 are worth a read too. They define "militia" at the time that the second amendment was actually wrote. Or baybe people need to dig out there selective service registration an look at it again to remind them that they are the federal militia.

The any-person-any-gun-any-place brigade persists in attempting to divert the discussion from the core subject which is the legality of rapid fire rifles and high capacity magazines. They are either very unsure of their case for such weapons remaining legal or a bit short on rational perception.

I can not understand why you can not understand that even if what you say is true, it is not relevant to the issue of the ability to reasonably regulate the 2nd amendment. If it makes you feel better then why don't you pick out the weapons you would like regulated. Fighter planes and nuclear weapons only?

Old Guy, I am not sure what you are agreeing to disagree about. The act has nothing to do with gun control. Simple as that.

Wow who knew I could come to a Chicken forum to debate Guns. My personal feelings are, the liberal left are out of they **** minds! Since when did this country ever allow the Government to tell us what we can and can't do? We are not in the UK, or the rest of the world. We are the USA! Our government is unlike any other in the world for a reason, freedom. The one thing that guarantees us our freedom and right to free speech is our right to bear arms. It doesn't matter what I need from day to day. If we lived according to only what we needed, we wouldn't have 95% percent of the items in our homes. They were needed when we won our independence from Britian, we will need them when the next invader invades, be it our own government or another Hitler. and you better believe having an unarmed Sociaty of civilians makes that task a thousand times easier!

Are you reading and listening to the news? It will be done by the various States the same as New York just did. The State legislatures are being flooded with restrictive gun bills and eventually the US Congress will be forced to pass some National regulations.

Listening to the news eh? Are you reading the Firearm Protection Acts that are going through state legislatures? Wyoming, Texas, Missouri, and more to follow. I had dinner with my state representative last evening and he showed me the initial draft of our state's FPA. New York and other states can pass laws restricting their citizens rights just as other states, such as mine, can pass laws protecting their citizens rights. Under the rights enumerated to the people and states by the 9th and 10th amendments, states can and will pass legislation to protect their citizens from federal overreach. Luckily I live in one of them and the majority of the people here support it.
