Daisy started laying! Whee! I have two questions...
First, of course she is NOT using the nesting box. I've tried putting her in it so she knows it's there, but she can't seem to figure out how to get out of it (it's built into the coop). She has been laying all her eggs in a corner of the run where my son piled up a bunch of straw. Since I know where to find the eggs, is there any reason to try and reprogram her to another location? Is there any reason not to let her lay out in the open like that?
And is it likely that the other hens will use her nest too, or will they come up with their own locations?
Second... Daisy's keeping me guessing with her laying schedule. The first egg arrived on a Saturday. She laid another on Monday, then on Tuesday, and just when I was getting really excited she skipped three days and laid her next egg on Saturday. She laid again today and now I'm wondering if she will lay again tomorrow, skip three days, or something entirely different. How long does it take to establish a regular rhythm? Or might this be her regular rhythm?
