Two questions on eggs...

By fart egg, do you mean small? All three gathered tonight were normal size for these 2 girls.

Yes, "fart eggs" (they are known by tons of different names) are generally small, yolk-less eggs. I've gotten them once or twice since my hens are fairly old, they both had yolks though. I cooked one and made it into scrambled eggs for fun, it was hardly a serving though!

I have gotten 4 fart eggs so far this spring and all from my 5 year old hens. They are still laying eggs just about 2-3 a week vs 5 and 6 a week. Easter eggers and California whites.

You can put food coloring on their vent to tell which hen is laying which eggs.

A lipstick in difrennt colours is a better.

I've heard of lipstick on a pig... My wife is a baker and doesn't wear lipstick so I guess that narrows down my choices. Lol

As of today, both NHRs each dropped an egg....thinking it was a fluke in timing on her part.

As of today...zero eggs from the NHRs. And the whites didn't lay a single egg either. Well, I guess that does give me an egg...a goose egg.

It has been unusually hot here. That said, one was laying the bumpies before the heat wave. The NHRs are drinking nearly 2x as much water as the WOs . They get fresh, cool water 3x a day. I will try the soda.

One thing I have noticed is all the eggs seem thin shelled as compared to store bought.

Also, the guy who gave them to me had them on a layer feed from a local feedmill. Not sure what was in it. I started them on Purina layer feed. The last 2 weeks they have been on flock raiser with oyster shells offeredfree choice.

This is why you never look a gift hen in the beak!

I may have missed it, I read you're supplementing with oyster shell, but what kind of feed are you giving?
