We have what we think are 2 Sussex chickens. They reside with other breeds. One of them seems the most aggressive of the entire bunch. But a curious thing has occurred in the last two-three days. The 2 are parked in one of the coops and not coming out for anything. Staying in the same position they don't come out for food. They don't come out for treats. That is the most peculiar thing. They were always the quickest and most aggressive in getting to the front of the line. Now they're just in the coop staying in the same position for what appears to be an alarming long time. Is this normal? Is it an indicator of something being wrong? What's going on here? Anybody have any clues or previous experience with such behavior?

By all means i am no chicken expert, but i'm hoping to help out by asking some questions that they might ask you, get more info so they can help you out.

are they still drinking water? could they have gotten into anything toxic/moldy? Does her abdomen feel hard? Has she been laying? Apparently when a chicken is egg bound, they sometimes act lethargic and puffed up.

have they been pooping? if so what does it look like?

Perhaps they have gone broody on you? (They kind of go into a trance, sitting in the box for hours, only getting up once of twice a day for a few minutes to eat and poo.)

Hope someone can help!

Also you'd probably getting a quicker response if you post in the Emergency/Illness section (i made this mistake too in the past)
