Hi everyone
Quick question. I have a pekin bantam with suspected mycroplasma. Tried a course of Baytril which slightly helped, but starting to get worse again, so now have Tylan 200 to try and knock it on the head.

Have just given her first injection tonight (IM) but as she has just had a week of Baytril injections, I think she will be feeling sore and I’m a bit worried about necrosis.

I was wondering if I could do evening injections (easy to pull her off roost and do) so I know she is getting full dose, and then the second daily dose orally in mornings on a treat while she is up and about?

Assume there’s no harm in mixing oral ingestion and IM injections? Is there any issues with oral as her breathing is laboured and I don’t want to inflame anything.

Thoughts?
Thank you!!!

Hi,

Anytime a medicine can be given orally, as long as you're comfortable doing that, there's less risk of tissue damage.

Dose is 0.25 ml per pound of body weight 4 times a day, or 0.33 ml per pound three times a day.

If you really want to do both, provided it's exactly the same strength, it shouldn't matter.

What are the symptoms? Do you see any facial swelling, watery or bubbly eye, sneeze, crackly breathing, mucus from the beak or head shaking? Baytril should have treated MG. I would give either Baytril or Tylan orally. Tylan 200 dosage is 0.1 ml orally 3 times a day for 5 days. I think the dosage Debbie used is for Tylan 50 which is 50 mg per ml while Tylan 200is 200 mg per ml

Yes, because the 200 is the injectable. I didn't realize that could be used for orally though. I maybe should have made sure the OP has the 50 for oral though instead of assuming.

Both Tylan 50 injectable and Tylan 200 injectable are given orally or by injection. Most of us can no longer get those in feed stores so we order Tylosin powder for the water.
