Tylan 50 dosage for swollen eye and bubbles with runny nose? Help!

There is really no cure for these things, so to speak. You are actually in an excellent position to start a new business with your birds. Honestly, since you have a business and not a small one, I would cull and start over. It would be incredibly difficult, but honestly the only way you can be sure it won't start up again. I am trying the vaccinating route, its a bit of a gamble since we might still infect our new chicks. We are small scale and if this doesn't work, well at least it isn't my business.

We would then choose to cull and start over. I would disinfect your old coop and anything and everything that touched your birds with bleach or oxine. Next, when you get your birds go with day old chicks from a hatchery or Very reputable breeder. Make sure they are NPIP and ask if they also test for MG. They might not, but big bonus if they do. Do not buy from Craig's list, poultry swaps/auctions, or the guy down the road. No matter how much they assure you that the birds are healthy!! The other good option is to hatch your own. These are the best ways to get birds and not bring in a disease. I personally reccomend that you never buy an adult bird. (ever) They can look perfectly healthy and be carrying a disease. Do not go by how the bird looks. Your next option if you want is to vaccinate for the more horrible diseases that kill. I think if I had a business i would go with ILT, coryza, and possibly MG, and fowl pox. This option can cost a bit, but can give you a bit more peace of mind. I do think that if you follow the above guidelines you can get away with not vaccinating.

Also, learn all you can about biosecurity. Type it into the search box. A good practice to keep a healthy flock, is not to visit folks who have chickens, or have them visit you. Germs travel on your clothes and hair, and even the car tires. If you really want to go to a swap or show and look around find a way to strip once home and stay clear of your chickens until a shower and change of clothes. Lots more to learn about it. These diseases are not kind teachers. I hope that was helpful for you and not stuff you already knew. I am still learning about it too. Good luck and sorry about all your birds.

So sorry to hear of your nightmare, Sunkissed. That's just awful!

I just found Pearl drinking some water and eating some medicated chick starter. (She's 5 weeks)

I'm taking it as a good sign, but she still has some clearish discharge from her eye. I've taken RedRoosterFarm's advice and dropped a bit into her eye to clear it up. She didn't mind it at all.

As far as keeping her quarrantined from the others--- it just doesn't make sense. They were all exposed at the same time. All showed the runny nose symptoms and only 3 have had the eye swelling stuff with it. The Terramycin seems to have cleared up the sinusitis and eye symptoms in all who were infected, except for Pearl who is receiving Tylan 50 injections once a day and this is the 3rd day. I only have the one chicken pen. It's huge! So I've disinfected the pen and coop again. Pearl will have to return after the others are vaccinated if she makes it.

These are my pets with the future benefit of eggs from the hens. This is a hobby for me, so I will continue to doctor and love my babies.

Thank y'all so much for the advice.

And Sunkissed, I truly hope your future endeavors are healthy, happy and profitable for you.

it sounds like coryza to me. don't know if anyone mentioned that already. my chickens got it last year just bought them. one was bad and crooping with the bubbly eyes and snotty nose. i put lysine in the water ever day and for about 3-5 days gve every chicken a shot of the tylosin i just figured by the wieght of the chicken with the wieght of recommended so it was like a 1/4 to a half cc

Great news!!! Pearl is 100% better! Eye is back to normal, no discharge, she's eating and drinking!

She's still quarantined until I have all the vaccines taken care of with the other birds. I'll almost be sad to see her go back out with the others. She's been such a great patient.

Thank you to everyone who offered their advice, expertise, and support! We (Pearl and I) are so very grateful!

Well dang it! Pearl's been doing so well, I let her go outside for a bit to exercise and I'll be danged if her eye started welling up, watering. I dunno if it's the remnants of the infection we were battling or not. Could she be allergic to something? Her eye isn't swollen, it isn't bubbly, just watery. I brought her back in, cleaned her eye with a cool, damp cottonball. Hope she just keeps getting better, but I admit, I'm a lil nervous.

She and I have formed a really neat bond on the upside of all this. I think she's gonna be my closest gal.
