Tylosin 50 injectable

It sounds like you may possibly have Tylan (tylosin) Soluble Powder for treating the water. That is not the same as Tylan 50 injectable. You can post a picture of the product you have if you will.

These two products are for adding to the water. Dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 3-5 days as the only source of Water.

I am in Australia and I purchased the Tylosin on eBay.au and if I remember correctly it came from a European country. I will type everything written on the label below:

PETLABVITAM (trademark symbol)
Tylosin 50
50 ml sterile liquid for injection
Content of active ingredient in 1 ml: 50 mg (5%) of Tylosin
Product used for the treatment of cats, dogs, rabbits, cattle, swine, goats, sheep.
Storage: dry dark place at a temperature of 5C to 25C.
Shelf life 2 years from date of manufacture.
Certified ISO 9001 2009
Warning: keep this product out of reach of children.
Exp 8/2019

That is all that is written on the label, there are no directions on how it is to be used. I had assumed it was a liquid because of the labelling but it is a water soluble powder. I would be very grateful if anyone can tell me how it can be used as an injectable and as an oral treatment for CRD.

Thank you for the dosage rates for use in water. I guess I am confused as the product is labelled Tylosin 50, 50 ml sterile liquid for injection. (and yet it is a powder).

@casportpony :oops:

Oh no, there should have been water in it already, or they should have supplied sterile water to add into the powder. This must have been because it is a different brand. As an RN, I have seen many injectable meds where you had to add water to them in hospitals, but a commercial drug should not be sold that way without the sterile water.

What you need to do, is to add 50 ml of water to the vial, and shake it until it has dissolved well. (I would microwave the water or boil it first, then let it cool before adding it to the vial.) If you have already used tap water, don’t worry. But only give the Tylan orally, because it won’t be sterile enough to give by injection. Refrigerate the tylosin in the fridge.

You will have to add 50 ml of water to this bottle and mix. Then from that mixture measure out your dose for each bird.

After I have measured out the 50 ml of water and added it to the container of powder and mixed them together is the dose I measure out for each bird injectable or not?

I am grateful for your response which I find very helpful. I have four 10 ml vials of sterile water for injections. I have taken out 1/2 teaspoon of the Tylosin powder to mix with water not knowing what else to do. I feel if I take out another 1/2 teaspoon then add my sterile water and mix it I should have an injectable version of Tylosin. This matters to me as this particular Sebright refuses to drink medicated water. I am scared of forcing liquid down its throat as I could aspirate it.
